My Son…Without Electronics

No electronics in the home is HARD!  But my son (without them)—  Oh my goodness, he is imaginative and fun and curious AND he talks with me!  I want to make this last as long as I possibly can SO… sorry IPad’s, Play Stations and phones for kids, you’re just not welcome in our home.

The Fabulous…

  • He’s playing outside and getting all that active boy energy moving
  • When he’s inside, he’s creating with clay or drawing or hammering rocks and finding crystals
  • He’s interacting with the dog and his brother
  • We’re talking – a lot
  • He’s reading!

The Not So Fabulous…

  • Oh my heavens there are a lot of tears over this

The Details…

Ok, to fill you in, we are just barely surviving here with this— especially because his friends have many electronics.  There’s a lot of crying, negotiating and explaining (it comes up almost daily), but because it is important to us and we see the difference between when our son uses electronics and when he doesn’t… we’re hanging in there!   I WILL say, he’s becoming an excellent negotiator.

We’re open to him playing on a Play Station (games like FIFA soccer) when we are visiting friends or family.  The hardest part at home is keeping them busy with new things to do.  We’ve learned that for us getting up and out the door on the weekend for a hike or a walk in the neighborhood sets our day in motion in a good way.   I know this will be an ongoing discussion for my son and I.  I look forward to one day laughing with him about our memories of this time and how much more fun it was to have adventures and talk and create than it would have been to sit in his room in front of a screen.
